Group & School Visit Policy

Purpose

The Superior Public Library welcomes visits from local schools, organizations, and groups. This policy ensures that group visits support positive and productive learning experiences while maintaining high-quality service for all library patrons.

Scheduling

To provide the best possible experience for all visitors, groups must schedule their visit at least two weeks in advance, even if staff assistance is not required. Advance scheduling allows us to avoid conflicts with library programs, ensure adequate staffing, and provide appropriate space for all our users.

The library may decline visit requests when staffing, space, or scheduling limitations prevent us from safely or effectively accommodating a group.

Supervision Requirements

Teachers or adult supervisors must remain with their group at all times. Groups may only divide into smaller sections if each section is accompanied by its own teacher or supervisor.

Storytime Visits

Storytime sessions for visiting groups may be arranged with at least two weeks’ notice. If a theme is desired, you must inform the library staff at the time the event is scheduled.
To ensure equitable access for all early childhood groups, preschool classes may schedule no more than one storytime visit per month.

Research Support

Library staff are happy to assist students with research strategies and skills development, including how to use the catalog, databases, and other learning tools. Staff cannot conduct
research on behalf of students; our role is to guide and empower learners to find information independently. Upon request and with at least two weeks’ notice, staff can pull a special collection of books for class use.

Use of Meeting Rooms

Groups wishing to use the Meeting Room, Classroom, Creator Room, or other designated spaces must reserve these areas well in advance. Some rooms fill months ahead of time, so early reservations are strongly recommended.

Cancellations and Rescheduling

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please notify the library at least 48 hours in advance. Noshows may limit a group’s ability to secure preferred dates in the future, especially during busy periods.
