Welcome to the SPL Serenity Space!
What is the SPL Serenity Space?
Our Serenity Space is intended to be a calming place with devices and furniture designed to meet the varied sensory needs of our patrons. It's a spot for individuals to decompress, cope, and learn how to regulate their emotions.
It is NOT a time-out space. Sensory rooms are a relaxing, quiet area for anyone who needs a place to decompress.
Why Did the Library Create the Serenity Space?
Superior Public Library is for everyone, and we are continually striving to make our space and services more welcoming and inclusive. This means finding ways to improve the experience of patrons with a variety of unique needs. Are sensory issues a barrier to potential patrons? If so, how can we ensure that they, too, can enjoy the full spectrum of library resources and services? For the parent of an autistic child, or an adult with anxiety, the Serenity Space offers a quiet, calming area that accommodates a variety of sensory needs.
What Does the Serenity Space Offer?
The Serenity Space is designed to promote calmness and peace, and offers a variety of devices and furniture to meet the varied sensory needs of our patrons. How was the Serenity Space Funded?
Superior Public Library applied for a grant through Enbridge's Fueling Futures program, which supports projects that strengthen the safety, vibrancy and sustainability of communities. Through their generous support, the library was able to create a space that will improve the experience of library patrons by making it more accessible and enjoyable.
