Book Bingo

~Superior children have the day off from school, so we're celebrating with Book Bingo!  Kids will play bingo using bingo boards featuring book characters, rather than letters and numbers.  Prizes for all!

Love Your Local Artist

~Nora Fie and the Friends of the Library will be hosting their fifth annual Love Your Local Artist event in the library's peak area.  This event, featuring music and refreshments, is free and open to the community.  Local artists will be at the library to discuss, display, and sell their work, and the evening will include a silent auction and adopt-a-book sale.

Wisconsin Women Making Film Series
6:00 p.m. | Library Meeting Room
~Join us for a screening of MAKERS: Women Who Make America, which tells the remarkable story of the most sweeping social revolution in American history, as women have asserted their rights to a full and fair share of political power, economic opportunity, and personal autonomy.  
 
After the screening, Dr. Alison Wielgus will facilitate a discussion on this film.  Dr. Alison Wielgus' research focuses on cinema's role within the larger world of media.  In particular, she focuses on the historiography of experimental films that draw on sound and performance art, and on the role of medium specificity within our contemporary convergence culture.  Her teaching often addresses intersections between media, politics, and gender and sexuality.
 
Dr. Wielgus has published work in the Millennium Film Journal.  She holds a Ph.D. in Film Studies from the University of Iowa and a B.A. in Cinema Studies from New York University.

Wisconsin Women Making Film Series
6:00 p.m. | Library's Meeting Room
~Join us for a free screening of Wisconsin's Nazi Resistance: The Mildred Fish Harnack Story, a documentary that takes a look at a Milwaukee-born, University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate who became the only American woman ever executed on the direct order of Adolf Hitler for her involvement in the Berlin resistance movement.  Following the screening, Deb Nordgren will be facilitating a discussion on the film.
 
Deb is a retired associate professor in library science of 24 years, the last of which were spent as library director at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.  She was also a member and chair of the Women & Gender studies program since 1991 until retirement.

Culver's Coloring Contest

~Culver's is celebrating National Library Week all April long with a coloring contest!  All participants will receive a certificate for a free Culver's ice cream cone after drawing their favorite scene or character from a book.  It's as easy as that!  Forms are available in the Children's Room.
