Tools You Can Use: Solutions for Independent Living

Apr. 23, Tuesday @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

From mobility devices like walkers and wheelchairs to technology like hearing aids, large print keyboards, and computer software, assistive technology can help people with disabilities do things which might otherwise be difficult or impossible. There are thousands of tools which can help us live happier, healthier, and more independent lives — and here’s your chance to experience some of these tools!

Come to Superior Public Library on April 23 at 1 p.m. for “Tools You Can Use: Solutions for Independent Living,” a free program presented by indiGO that will feature demonstrations of a variety of assistive tools. You’ll even get a chance to try them out for yourself!

This program is held in conjunction with One Book Northland, a regional reading project that invites the communities of Superior, Duluth, Two Harbors, and Cloquet to read a selected book and attend programs and events that explore the book’s themes. This year’s selection, Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century, edited by Alice Wong, is an anthology of people’s oral stories collected to preserve their experiences living in a world designed for non-disabled people. The One Book Northland hopes to start a meaningful conversation around disability and how it affects our lives, whether we identify as disabled or not.

The One Book Northland committee includes representatives from the community, Duluth Public Library, Cloquet Public Library, Superior Public Library, Two Harbors Public Library, University of Minnesota Duluth, the College of St. Scholastica, UW Superior’s Jim Dan Hill Library, Fond Du Lac Tribal Community College, Superior Save the Kids, Barnes & Noble, Bookstore at Fitger’s, and Zenith Bookstore.
