Calendar of Events

Our Winter Reading Programs launch January 2, 2019! This year we're offering programs for kids, teens, AND adults! Kids and teens can pick up reading logs at the Youth Services desk and earn prizes for reading all winter long! Patrons age 18 and up can pick up a reading log at the Circulation Desk. Read 5 books by March 30 and you'll receive a Superior Public Library tote bag AND an entry in our prize drawing!

Lyme Disease - Why the Controversy?
6 p.m. | Library Meeting Room
The bacterium that causes Lyme disease is capable of penetrating blood vessels easily. Brain-autopsy evidence now supports invasion of the human brain much earlier and easier than previously ever thought. Learn what Lyme disease is, how to prevent it, and the controversies surrounding this and other Tick-Borne-Infections. This program will be led by local Lyme disease researcher Thomas Grier. Refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library.

Free Movie, "First Man"
6 p.m. | Library Meeting Room
Ryan Gosling stars as Neil Armstrong in this riveting story of NASA’s mission to land a man on the moon, focusing on the years 1961-1969. A visceral, first-person account, based on the book by James R. Hansen, the movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost—on Armstrong and on the nation—of one of the most dangerous missions in history. This movie is rated PG-13 and light snacks will be available.

9th Annual Love Your Local Artist
5:30-8 p.m.
This annual fundraiser celebrates local art, live music, libraries, and community. Peruse the tables and meet local artists while purchasing their work. Support the library through the Adopt-a-Book sale and the silent auction. Enjoy wine and refreshments, all while supporting your local library. This after-hours event is free to attend and open to the public.

Yoga at the Library

Mid-winter blues getting you down? Come to our free yoga class with Superior YMCA Wellness Coordinator Jen Rosnau and learn how to move your body in a way that feels good! This class is appropriate for all levels and is open to ages 12+. Bring a yoga mat if you have one. There is no charge to attend this class, but donations will be collected with all proceeds going toward future library programming.

This group of dedicated volunteers maintains the Book Corner, hosts annual book sales, and also supports library programs and other needs. History of Brewing in Superior & Duluth with Tony Dierckins
6:30 p.m. | Library Meeting Room
Historian Tony Dierckins joins us for a FREE program about the pioneer brewers in Superior and how they navigated the booms and bust of the 1860s and 70s. Learn about the rise of Superior in the 1890s--becoming the second-largest city in Wisconsin with more breweries than Duluth--and the creation of Superior's Northern Brewing Company. Learn about Superior during Prohibition, as well as how commercial brewing has returned to Superior.
